Copy Plus Goat

Photographer Jonas Lemberg – author of this photo – is now filing charges against Markus Andersson – author of this painting – for copyright infringement.

Jeff Koons was once involved in a similar law suit some twenty years ago, and was then found guilty, but I somehow doubt that Andersson will suffer the same verdict. There is, for instance, no goat in the background of Lemberg’s photo. And I can’t for the life of me believe that any court would effectively outlaw painting after photographic images. What would happen to the works of Gerhard Richter, Charles Bell… or even Warhol, then?

Actually, I think that should be "copy plus copy". The background is a copy of William Holman Hunt's painting 'The Scapegoat'. Is Markus Andersson making a point?

I didn't notice that at first, but I'm sure he is. And I'm also sure that he wanted people to notice where he got the pictures from in the first place.

But Andersson isn't recognized painter in his own right, so it's hard to know for sure. He was invited, in a very post modern fashion, by Daniel Morc to use his space at Modernautställningen 2006.

And the obvious point would of course be that Christer Pettersson, who was once tried and acquitted for the murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, was in fact a scapegoat used to cover up a larger conspiracy of some kind.

The murder of Olof Palme has been the Swedish "JFK-drama" for a long time, and theories about who the killer really was are abundant.

Thanks for clear thinking.
Of course I wanted people to recognise both of the sources that inspired me.
Moreover other pictures inspired and life itself inspired me, and the bible, and the lack of currage among people in authority to accuse the real murder of prime minister Olof Palme.
